Black Bronx Writers to Read for Black History Month

It’s Black History Month and what better way to celebrate than by reading Black authors books who are from the Boogie Down Bronx! Check out the below authors and be sure o pick up one of their books this month.

Saraciea J. Fennell is a Black Honduran writer and the founder and creator of The Bronx is Reading. She is also a book publicist who has worked with many award-winning and New York Times bestselling authors. Saraciea sits on the board for Latinx in Publishing as well as on the Advisory Board of People of Color in Publishing.

Cicely Tyson was an American actress. In a career that covered more than seven decades in film, television, and theater, she became known for her portrayal of strong African-American women. Tyson received many awards including three Emmy Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Tony Award, an Honorary Academy Award, and a Peabody Award.

Majora Carter is an American urban revitalization strategist and public radio host from the South Bronx area of New York City. Carter founded and led the non-profit environmental justice solutions corporation Sustainable South Bronx from 2001 onward, before entering the private sector in 2008.

Camonghe Felix is An American writer, poet, and communications strategist. In 2015, she was appointed as Governor Andrew Cuomo's speechwriter and was the first black woman and youngest person to serve in the role. Her debut poetry collection, Build Yourself A Boat, was longlisted for the 2019 National Book Award.

Alyssa Cole is a New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author of romance, historical, contemporary, and sci-fi, and thrillers. Her Civil War-set espionage romance An Extraordinary Union was the American Library Association’s RUSA Best Romance for 2018, and A Princess, in Theory, was one of the New York Times’ 100 Notable Books of 2018.

Enoch Boateng is a Senior at Bronx Academy for Software Engineering. His goal is to graduate and attend a SUNY or private college to study computer engineering or become a real estate worker.
