Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover

After serving five years in prison for a terrible mistake, Kenna Rowen moves back to her old town for one single purpose: to reunite with her four year old daughter, Diem, that was taken from her. The only problem is that the people raising Diem now want nothing to do with Kenna, which makes things extremely difficult. In this heartbreaking story, Kenna fights to earn back trust from all angles. 

In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez

Set in the 1960s, this novel shows what it was like for the Mirabal sisters during Trujillo’s dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. In the midst of darkness, Minerva, Patria, Maria Teresa, and survivor Dedé— each tell their own story. 

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

16-year-old Holden Caulfield has just been expelled from prep school. Both confused and intrigued, he tackles New York City in hopes for answers of the “phony” world he lives in.

Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo

Opal, a ten-year-old girl from Florida, experiences loneliness after feeling abandoned by her mother. She goes to her father, the preacher, for consoling, wanting to know more about her mother, but he doesn’t budge. One day, on a visit to the supermarket, Opal comes across a dog and immediately befriends him. Throughout the book Opal and her dog grow closer and he helps her build friendships until, eventually, Opal no longer feels lonely. 

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

Alicia Berenson’s life may seem perfect: she’s a well known painter married to an elite photographer and lives in an amazing house in one of London’s finest areas. However, her husband comes home late one evening, and she shoots him five times then never speaks again. Criminal psychotherapist, Theo Faber, is heavily fascinated by this case and will not stop until he uncovers Alicia’s motives and the real reason behind her sudden silence.
