KWANA JACKSON

AUTHOR OF REAL MEN KNIT

Why did you become an author?

Growing up I always knew I wanted to be either (1) a fashion designer or (2) a writer. I had twins and because of childcare conflicts had to leave my full time designer day job. After doing various other jobs one day I decided to pursue my old dream of being a writer and wrote my first story.

What are you reading right now?

I’ve been on deadline so have not been reading as much as I would like and my TBR pile is long and alluring. I have recently finished and loved The Boyfriend Project from Farrah Rochon and Paris is Always a Good Idea from Jenn McKinlay. I have coming up Alexis Daria’s You Had Me At Hola and I can’t wait to read it!

Have you ever been to the Bronx? If so, what's a favorite memory you have? If not, what do you know or think about the Bronx?

I’m a native New Yorker who grew up in Harlem so I have been to the Bronx many times and know lots of the Bronx. Some favorite memories and places? Late night at the White Castle off of Fordham Rd. Also shopping on Fordham road as a kid. Arthur Avenue for baked goods. And my all time favorite is City Island for seafood. Johnny’s Reef is the spot.

What is a quote you live by?

I don’t particularly have a quote that I live by. So I guess I’ll say the first thing that came to mind with the question. “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” Psalm 27 vs 1.
